So, after spending two years trying to get my cobbled together network upgraded using the very BEST of 5 year old used eBay Enterprise-grade hardware... some future planning is going to require a lot more. I'm actually fairly pleased with how far I've come with a very small budget, but I'm also under no illusions how much throughput, and stability, I have. Better than it was, but not where it should be for future needs.
So, I'm looking at newer switches.... 48 port managed, Layer 3, Power-Over-Ethernet is going to be required for some security systems and VOIP (It's possible Alexander Graham Bell may have built our existing phone system...)..
I'm looking at Ubiquiti Networks switches, security camera systems, and maybe WiFi (though we just spent quite a bit upgrading to Ruckus WAP's, so that'll be later).
Problem is, I have yet to find anyone USING Ubiquiti hardware to find out if they're any good, how their support is, etc.
They TALK a good game, and their specs read well, and they're surprisingly inexpensive.
So..
Anyone have an opinion? Or should I just shut up and give HP my money for brutally expensive HP Procurve switches? (about four times the cost of the Ubiquiti's).
