Have always seen lightning bugs around here. What's the reason for their dis- and reappearance where you are?
Where I grew up there was always just the one kind that glowed for a second or more. Here, we get both kinds but the balance seems to be tilting towards the ones that flash quickly like an LED.

![]() We had a dearth of them for years after Michigan sprayed neighborhoods for Dutch Elm disease-yes, we breathed this when they drove thru neighborhoods spraying elm trees and everything else. Didn't work. But it killed a lot of other critters... Of course, they're laying low while we wait for Summer to get here. 54ยบ this morning.

Warmer weather brings them out up here. We usually don't see them until August, but they've been out even in June. I'm sure they are lying low in the grass keeping warm since yesterday.. it was chilly !
