i think mine is just straight up bad at being a store. like the employees have never been to a real store. what if online inventory matched the shelves? what you in store pick up orders were available until the date specified in the email, rather than when we randomly cancel them?

Depends who you ask in our local store. Online inventory has always been spot on here. I've been told "we don't carry that" or "if it's not there we are out" .Sometimes wish I still had a smartphone so I could stand there, order it online, go to the front desk and pick it up.

The guy sitting in the "special order windows and doors" counter had never heard of glazing points, and didnt think they carried them.
I used the HD app to find them, it even told me the aisle number.
I supposed there are a few good ones, but like most retail, its few and far between.

Mixed bag 'round here-- I have 4 or 5 that I frequent with some kind of regularity... none of them are great in every way- typically a few employees who really know their stuff and a few who have no business working in a job that involves human contact.

I have 9 Home Depot stores within a brief drive from my home.
Of them two are like that. They're significantly smaller stores than the others and I wonder whether that has something to do with their problems. Maybe they get the reject-employees from the bigger stores because they have less retail space and less leverage with the corporate offices.

We are in a building 'boom' cycle, so the better hardware employees are busy making a living by making homes.
HD here has a want-ad out for all departments.

From what I've seen, HD doesn't give their employees the tools they need to do their jobs. Any time I've asked an employee where a certain item is or if they have it in back/up stock, they pull out their phone and check the HD app. That phone may or may not be issued by the company for that purpose; I have no idea. But, the fact that they don't have any better tools at their disposal than what I can download myself does not inspire confidence.

I called the local Home Depot to check on the availability of a tool that was listed on their site. the guy in the department that would have this tool assured me it was in stock. I go there, no tool. I find the guy who told me that he was sure they had them and he's mystified. I get someone who actually knows what he's supposed to do at his job (the older man who should probably be working at a small hardware store with knowledge of everything DIY, or just enjoying retirement). He tells the young one "We haven't carried that in almost a year."
Yeah, thanks for getting off your ass and checking on something that someone called to be sure they weren't wasting time driving down there for nothing. May your future be filled with evermore lazier people than yourself.
