Sleep Number Bed

I am considering a Sleep Number Bed as I have trouble with mattresses because I am overweight and must sleep on my side which breaks down the mattress sides. I wonder if my side of the bed would hold up better with this type of mattress. I already have a bed that can raise the feet or the head which has been very handy after my back surgeries. I think this type of mattress can be raised with my existing equipment. Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Take a look at latex mattresses. Very comfortable, they sleep cool and have great longevity - I love mine.

I have no experience with those beds but saw an article that may be of interest.

Consumer Reports recommended the best buys in three mattress categories: traditional innerspring, memoryfoam, and adjustable air.

In the adjustable air category, they liked the $700 Sleep Number c2 best, better than the $3000 Sleep Number i8 .

I have had the i8 for about 3 years and I'm looking to get something else due to back issues. I wake up with lower back pain most morning no matter what I set it on. I went on vacation twice this past summer with a little back pain. After the first night sleep in the hotel bed my back pain was gone. That happen on both vacations in different hotels. The sleep number mattress is developing pressure points just like the mattress I had before I bought it.

Other options out there now, however. I'd do some research on the competition, check out the SN options in person at a store if possible.

We purchased one (the mid-range version - I can't remember the model number) about 18 months ago. I'm a bigger guy, about 6' 2", 240, and have sleep apnea. Also a side sleeper. My wife is 4"11 and about 115, so we could never find a mattress that felt right to both of us.

Changed my life. Worth every penny to me.

I don't own one, but have always enjoyed sleeping on one when I visit a relative. Just recently replaced ours with a Serta hybrid iSeries mattress. Uses a combination of memory foam and gel on top of a traditional coil set. Works well for me.

Flipping a traditional mattress on a regular basis really helps extend its life.

If the mattress can be flipped. Mattress manufacturers are making fewer and fewer models that allow for flipping. Fortunately, you can turn mattresses, still. Turning makes a huge difference.
