In this area alone the road is littered with the corpses of (what used to be called) 'one-floor department stores': Zayres, Kings, Ames, Bradlees, and others I've doubtless forgotten. Not to mention supermarkets: A&P, Purity Supreme, Star Market, etc., etc. These are perilous economic times. I've read that Target is closing stores, too, and Sears is hanging on by a thread. /Mr Lynn

they are closing 12 supercenters and opening 50 - 60 new ones the supercenters are stores built too close together and are essentially competeing with each other they are closing 12 supercenters and opening 50 - 60 new ones they are closing a Sam's here but it is built right next door to a Supercenter and has never done well. globally they are closing 270 stores and opening 405 not exactly bad news and the stock is one of the few that has rallied 4 or 5 % since the first of the year
