What does the forum like for an over-the-counter cold medicine these days?

Besides hookers & booze.

The last time I had a cold I remember reading labels at the local drug store.

What's good for a sore throat and runny/stuffy nose?

I recommend Hibernol!

I joke, of course. I hope you find something to ward off the symptoms until you get over it.

Sudafed and a shot of bourbon.

Since I don't like pills I prefer the Nyquil/Dayquil liquid 2-packs at the drug store. There's orange, cherry and grape to choose from.

I'm a fan of chlorphenamine as an antihistamine that effectively balances effectiveness and side effects; it will help stop the runny nose. If you need something to dry you out, you can't beat pseudoephedrine (the real thing, not its terrible replacement phenylephrine). If you need pain relief, I'd go with naproxen because it's the easiest of the NSAIDs on your liver, assuming you're not prone to ulcers. Just my $0.02.

Real Sudafed or generic, from behind the counter. The stuff on store shelves was proven ineffective.

Cold-Eeze is still my go to. Take it at the first hint of a sore throat.

Alka-Seltzer cold remedy for runny nose, but that is usually better for my back-of-the-throat-drainage allergy.

I find you have to ask the pharmacist for the good stuff and give them your id to be put on a list.
