"In the last couple of days, visitors of a number of highly popular websites have been targeted with malicious adverts that attempted to install malware (mostly ransomware, but also various Trojans) on their systems."

It's past ridiculous. Sites say you can't see content unless you turn off your ad blocker, then they serve up malware once you turn it off (I'm looking at you, Forbes).

We use UBlock on OSX, works great.

I use uBlock on OS X.
And currently Refine for iOS but I'm still dabbling with ad blockers for my iPhone, none of the free ones seem nearly as robust as uBlock or Adblock Pro out of the box which is a shame...

I am blocking all advertisements in both OS X and IOS. I have seen a few websites that insist I turn off the blocker before giving me the content. I think that is a fair request but my choice is to not read those sites.

Eventually I think a new advertisement standard will be established to control the amount of advertising a website should display and also what type of advertisement (no sound or automatic video's for example). Until that day comes I will keep blocking.
