Sennheiser HE 1

I suggest listening to 320kb MP3s of modern ultra-compressed "paint brush" pop to really appreciate how much you've dropped.
Don't waste your time with Kind of Blue, or mostly compressed pop of SACD Hotel California as David Weiss (though he is a very smart and experienced audiot and player/composer) suggests.

the bleeding edge

when I can one day afford these, I hope I remember to give back the same value.
But I suppose some would view my Senn 650s the same.

Wait long enough and you'll find them at a neighborhood garage sale for $1.

I still want to get a $50 one or two tube headphone amp, just because.

It's the same reason those Senns exist, just on a different scale.

If I had a choice between being the guy who can afford $60,000 for those 'phones or the guy who feels the need to think of that guy as an ass, I'll take the former every time.

Because what other people think ultimately is irrelevant, whether they realize it or not.

Saw a bottle of $1,200 scotch in the store the other day. In broad daylight! No one was standing around gawking at it, nor wondering why someone might buy it. Crazily, its presence was accepted!

We seriously need to get over our collective funk with thinking some things --- yes, even electronics --- can't exist in rarified air. That's not me placing a value judgment on $60K headphones for anyone here, but rather, wondering why anyone else would.
