PSA: please please don't TXT and drive
#1
Because yesterday evening my teenage son was struck from behind for the second time in less than 12 months by a person using their phone. While he was stopped at a traffic light. Fortunately he was not badly injured this time. No concussion, just bruises and strains.

What is WRONG with people ?

I'm glad your son wasn't seriously hurt.

But do you really think it necessary to begging us not to text and drive?

Exactly who do you think you're directing this to?

Just telling us what happened is enough without implying by imploring.

For some they cannot help but preach.

So sorry to hear this, cbelt. A message everyone needs to heed. Here's to a speedy, full recovery for your son.

It is my fervent hope that someday soon, texting and driving will be looked at as morally shameful just like driving impaired. When I do interviews for safe cycling/driving, this is the message I try to subtly communicate...that it's morally reprehensible. ("You don't want someone's death on your hands...you're 2 tons and someone on a bike is a few hundred pounds...) Without preaching of course. Cyclists are perhaps the most vulnerable people in the texting/driving equation.

I'm sure cbelt meant nothing patronizing about his message above. A father's deep concern, love and I'd guess major frustration and angst is all. I imagine he implored this to us because we are all influencers in our own circles in some way. I can tell you that because of this, I am reminded to post a FB message/graphic about not texting and driving which I'll do in the next few days here.

Drive (and ride) safe, everyone.

This was another car accident, right ? He wasn't literally smacked with a phone ?

Why is everyone so upset about cereal posting? I mean, if you want to talk about what you ate for breakfast, who cares? Cornflakes, oatmeal, even Count Chockula, everyone has a right to their own breakfast choices.

I mean, if we start censoring talk about breakfast, where will it end? We will all end up eating in the closet. And let me tell you my closet is full of mold, which I would really rather not get on my food.

And then the shoes. If I have to eat in the closet, where will I put my shoes?

That's SERIAL posting, Emily, not CEREAL posting.

Oh! Never mind.
