WASHINGTON — Ending one of the longest, costliest and most bitterly partisan congressional investigations in history, the House Select Committee on Benghazi issued its final report on Tuesday, finding no new evidence of culpability or wrongdoing by Hillary Clinton in the 2012 attacks in Libya that left four Americans dead.

A moment of silence please, for the usual suspects here, who will now have to find different sources of recreational outrage.

Never underestimate the tenacity of distrust and dislike. Some folk marry their opinions with passion and fervent belief that exceeds all rationality.

Sad in a way for the GOP.

It's like closing down a favorite ride at Disney.

From the link: "The Democrats on the committee — summarizing their complaints most recently in a report they issued on Monday, seeking to pre-empt the Republicans’ findings — said that the Benghazi effort had dragged on longer than far more important congressional inquiries like the ones into the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, the attack on Pearl Harbor and the response to Hurricane Katrina."

Where there is smoke, there is fire. According to the Washington Times, top aides were watching videos while the Seige of Benghazi was raging.

"Secretary Leon Panetta ordered that all available resources be used to help fend off the 2012 Benghazi terrorist attack. Why that didn’t happen remains the biggest unanswered question of the assault.

Rep. Trey Gowdy and fellow members of the probe looking into the attack said Tuesday that the administration appeared more concerned with an anti-Islamic film than with getting aid to the Americans taking fire.

In the draft of their report, which has been two years in the making, the Republicans on the probe said the key moment was a White House conference call at 7:30 the night of the attack.

Even as the assault was ongoing, and as those on the ground were relaying back to Washington details of well-trained fighters attacking, the top aides on the call focused on the video.

“I simply ask the American people to read this report for themselves, look at the evidence we have collected, and reach their own conclusions,” Mr. Gowdy said in a statement.

The report details the evidence the committee amassed about decisions made i. establishing the diplomatic outpost in Benghazi and ignoring security warnings ahead of time, the failure to send aid during the prolonged attack and the aftermath, which saw the administration blame the anti-Islamic film, despite mounting evidence the video had nothing to do with the attack."

Knowing full well that virtually no one will read a word of it. Instead both detractors and supporters of Clinton will stand by their already formed opinions.

The political leeches are free to make up and say anything, no matter how outlandish, or removed from the actual report those statements may be. They will be believed, and quoted without question. By not giving specific findings, the committee has allowed itself a political escape from those statements.
