Replaced mine with a used 1280 about a year ago. The carriage that holds the ink cartridges cracked so I can't align the cartridges. I had repaired it once for the ink sponges filling up and Epson doesn't tell you that can happen. All the lights started flashing and I was getting ready to toss it when a friend told me that it can shut down due the sponges filling up and it was $160 to fix. It was a good printer but with all the new ones out there that are inexpensive and give as good results as the 1200, I 'd just buy a new one.

I'm still running a 1200. Feels pretty clunky at this point, especially under OS X. I wouldn't turn down a free one, but I wouldn't set out to buy one either. Seems to clog every other day despite contant use and it's slow as a dog in X.

I have both a Perfection 1200 Photo USB scanner, and a Stylus Photo 1200 printer (2 in fact) That is the last printer generation from Epson that doesn't have OEM archival ink BTW. There are 3rd party suppliers, MIS Supply is one of them. The carts don't have chips, so they can be refilled as well.
There are both OSX and OS 9 drivers. And yes, slow. But it does make nice 13x19 prints, if you have the time to kill. |
