EyeTV 250, Plextor ConvertX or Miglia TVMax?
#1
All seem to work with EyeTV 2 software, so which one is the best piece of hardware?

The intended application would be recording TV shows for viewing on an iPod. (I have a Tivo, but getting shows from that to the iPod requires a PC).

If it works well enough, it may (with the addition of an Eyehome or iTV) replace the Tivo altogether.

Is there any comparison of the recording quality of these boxes?

I don't think I'd use the MPEG1 mode, but it seems the MPEG4 hardware compression on the Plextor and Miglia boxes could be useful for the iPod.
Can it be tailored to be iPod compatible so there would be no need to recompress it for the iPod?

Here is the perfect opportunity for you to explain why the Plextor is the best and yet all we got was a little love...

I've seen posts about the Plextor, but not so much about the newer EyeTV 250 or the Miglia TVMax.

How do these compare with the Plextor? Seems the EyeTV 250 is lacking the hardware MP4 compression and the Miglia doesn't have the MP1 hardware compression.

I think I'd rather have the MP4 compression anyway, especially if it can record directly in a format that an iPod could play. Is that even a possibility? I can't tell from what little info exists on the web.

And how is the quality of the recordings? Is one of these better than the others? Is one just total crap?

I just haven't found any head to head comparisons.

Any place, except for maybe an eBay hunt, where an EyeTV200 is still available? I'd rather have a Firewire solution.

Craigslist.
That's about it, ElGato doesn't even sell a refurb.
No USB2 port?
I know that the two EyeTV200's I had on loan would get flaming hot.
As DotMan said, the Plextor works on USB1, but at VCD resolution.

I have the plextor and it works fine but does not have a remote control. I believe the eyetv 250 does have a remote. Now that difference "may" not be important if you have a newer computer that comes with the apple remote control, but if not then it is an important distinction. Rusty, please correct me if I am wrong, but I think this is the important difference.

I am not familiar with the miglia.
