I've bought and sold on eBay for years and this year started to use GarageSale which I find very useful. In trying to cut costs I now thought about only uploading one photo to eBay and if I need to show more I could use links to them stored in PhotoBucket.
I think I have done it right but want to get some confirmation from those more expert than myself.
PhotoBucket gives 3 sorts of 'links', URL, Tag and Img. I tried putting the Url in my auction details but when I viewed the listing it wasn't there as a link, just the string of letters. I tried Img and that didn't seem to do anything either so finally tried Tag. When I view the listed auction I now see my extra pictures in the main details which looks fine to me but is this correct? Am I right in thinking that eBay are not hosting these extra pictures but when I view the auction the webpage automatically shows what is hosted by PhotoBucket?

The way I've always done my pictures on eBay is to build up one large composite using Photoshop. I make the canvas size say 10"x14" and then fill it with 4 to 10 smaller shots as needed to show the various details . I save it at the lowest resolution jpg which will end up being 200K or so, small enough for dial up users but still looks fine on screen.
I sometimes use a single picture for the gallery shot but often just use the same composite. This was my get around because of lack of Mac support some years ago, and then to avoid the extra fee's per photo.

It's certainly another way to keep in mind, thank you. As it is I think I've worked out that I did do it correctly as going over the pictures in my auction details shows up the PhotoBucket address. They are also links which take you to PhotoBucket's homepage.
Great, so now I know I can add multiple pictures to an auction without getting charged any extra.

Not sure how GarageSale handles things but eBay's Auction Listing page uses standard HTML.
You may want to get a freebie WYSIWYG HTML editor (Netscape?) and put in the linked photos....

I just thought it might be worth mentioning that you can get a dreamhost account pretty cheaply and it will work great for storing ebay images.
That's the main reason I got a dreamhost account. WIth coupon codes, you can get a plan for about $30 for 1 year, free domain name included.
It would probably be slightly easier than Photobucket/Imageshack and you could get plenty of other uses from it. Storing photo albums, videos, files, ect. I also use mine as a place to host copies of my listings (Both as backups, and to use to have someone else look over for errors before listing).
Here's one that I'll be listing sometime soon:

I just recently cleared out most of my already sold items, so that's the only thing up right now. I need to start photo-ing and listing a lot of posters soon.

Thanks for the advice. For the moment PhotoBucket appears to be doing all I need at no cost and having worked out that it's the Tag link I need to put into my Garagesale listings it's very straightforward as well.
At present I have no need to store videos or loads of photos online, I make multiple backups of all our photos on discs as well as HD and they are stored in separate locations as well. Sometime in the future my needs could easily change so I will bear your thoughts in mind.

Thumbnails load much faster for those on dial-up than full size images and the page looks
less cluttered.
More thanks...I will give that a go and try and change an auction. Too easy to forget that there are some still on dial-up although here in the UK I believe we have one of the highest take-ups of broadband.

Done it! That is exactly what I wanted, perfect.
Many thanks.
