MIMO router worth it?
#1
Our house is barely covered by my old G wireless router. There are spots in the bedrooms and on the deck where the signal is fair to poor.

I'm seeing more and more of these MIMO routers that promise greatly increased coverage.

Has anyone tried one out yet?

Here is one at Newegg with great reviews.

Thanks.

Did you try relocating your router?
Just moving my router up three feet, and five feet over vastly improved the signal.
How big is your house?

Yes - I've been through a lot of reconfigurations with my router setup. We have thick walls... and a water bed. It is just tough to get good signal there (please, no jokes about water beds).

I had good signal using one of those antenna boosters, but my current router doesn't have removable antennas.

This MIMO router sounds like a good deal at $50AR, and the reviews are favorable, but I didn't know how much of it was just hype.

What router do you have?

Some newer models offer powerful features for covering your home in wifi.

oooh...does a MIMO router require a MIMO card?

I'm not sure about this MIMO stuff yet.

You can still get the Buffalo WHR-G54S @ newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6833162173 for $40 each shipped OR $35 shipped @ buy.com http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?loc=101&sku=201718519 using Google Checkout (you'll have to make multiple orders to buy 2 or more). Note: buy will charge sales tax on the pre-discount price of $44.95 if applicable for your home state.

Even if you don't flash it with DD-WRT, a pair of the G54S's, one as your router and the other as an access point should give you the coverage needed.

I'm using a $10 AT&T Fatwallet special.

You get what you pay for?

It isn't the amount, that router is crap.

OK. Well, no one seemed to be able to answer my original question regarding MIMO routers, "Has anyone tried one out yet?"

Thanks for all the un-requested info, though.

I will do some research and report back.
