Design critique, por favor. (Bandwidth warning...)
#1
Hey all, I’m doing a (paid) design test for a mobile services company. The assignment was to create a landing page for their ringtone, wallpaper, etc. services. The market is teenagers & tweens. The examples they gave me are:

h*tp://us.mobi.dada.net/splash/specialoffer_us1.html
h*tp://offers.blinko.com/?offer_id=2995&affil=3955-cingular
www.thumbplay.com/partner.do?pName=65a&pTrx=free_ringtones&WT_mc.id=4045

Any feedback is super appreciated. The image is 800 x 930something. I hope that’s not too big for some of you.

Thanks...

I don't know if you got to choose the artists, but as part of the target audience(In theory anyway) I know one of them, The Killers.

From a purely design/marketing standpoint it looks good though, not too complex, not too simple, and portrays the stuff in a good way.

My 2 cents anyway

the tween in me just started paying $9.99 to fuel my ringtone indecision

my only suggestion is to set apart the sign up form. perhaps in a similar manner as the headline

I didn't get to pick the artists 'chip, but I have heard of all of them (unfortunately Fergie as well).

That's a really good point mattkime. Thank you. What is your ringtone plan?

It's kind of funny, I'm probably the last person who should be doing this job. I'm a darn near Luddite when it comes to mobile phones. The only fancy web/communication feature I use on my phone is text messaging, that's it. I didn't get a colour phone until almost two years ago. Didn't really care.

If I pass this test, I'll get to freelance with the company for two weeks at a daily rate building more landing pages and HTML emails. If they like my work during that time, I'll receive an offer for full time work.

Let's see how this goes...

Make the 1-2-3 lighter/brighter so it contrasts more with the paint splatter.

The typeface used for the $9.99 offer, etc. is horrible.

The 'Shareefa' and '2' splatters are too blurry compared to the other ones.

use a different photo in the phone and skew it properly so it doesn't look like you just copied the other photo (which you did, i assume)

shadow under the phone so it doesn't look like it's floating.

#2: drop 'and' down to the next line and tighten up the leading.

What's up on the left of the Ne-Yo image?

tighten up the leading and reduce the type size a bit on the 'Get them now on your phone ' so the text fits better within the splatter

>>>Make the 1-2-3 lighter/brighter so it contrasts more with the paint splatter.

I had the light green colour in there but a friend suggested using the dark red to match it with the heading...i prefer the light green actually.

Why? it is the same as the one for the directions. Is it horrible there too and what makes it horrible?

>>>The 'Shareefa' and '2' splatters are too blurry compared to the other ones.

I was wondering about this one as well...

I was only given five photos to use. I didn't want to pick another artist because who knows if they the usage rights or not...

I figured it was the same as the directions, and I don't love it there, but I think the bold/reg is helping me to not concentrate on how ugly the type is. Plus, the numbers '9.99' really stand out as what i like to call ungood®

maybe put their logo on the phone's screen as an alternative?
