The reference to Duluth Trading Company a few threads away brings to mind a question about work clothes. I find that I kneel a lot, especially working in the yard and oh, so many of my work pants have tears or holes in the knees. Sometimes I remember to carry a kneeling pad, but so often I am walking through the yard and just kneel down to pull some weeds.
I have been hitting the used clothing racks, figuring that a tear in a pair that did not cost much would not be all that bad, but having a pair that resists the tearing to start with has its advantages too.
What work pants do you recommend?

Cahhartt (among others, im sure) make double front pants, put not sure I would call them "casual". I supposed if just wore them on weekends?

I'm guessing the double knee Levi's from the 1950's era are no longer an option? You could hold onto the car bumper while your mom dragged you behind the family station wagon on your knees, and not tear those suckers. Maybe roll your own these days w/ some Kevlar/aramid knee patches, and find an old neighbor lady w/ a low miles, Sunday driver, station wagon to test the premise.

Sierra Trading Post has a good selection. I bought some factory-seconds Carhartt pants for under $10/pair when they had a special on them. I think shipping starts at $6-7 dollars for orders under $25.

5.11 tactical pants are what a lot of us wear for wilderness search and rescue. I have yet to get a hole in any of mine. I wait for the 20% sales at lapolicegear.com. You can sometimes also find them at discount stores like sierra trading post.

Military fatigues work very well, either commercial copies or surplus. I'm just not fond of looking like a military wannabee or survivalist if I need to run to the store
If the extra stitching doesn't bother you, I have my wife sew scrap denim (from older pants) on the inside of the knees of my gardening jeans. Doesn't help the back pocket, though, I'm regularly tearing out pockets with shears, screwdrivers and such.

and not just to save wear and tear to your pants.
If you're past twenty-something and gaining
any weight you're not doing your knee caps any favors every time you use them un-cushioned instead of your feet. Even if you're not gaining weight you're not doing them any favors.
