FU: Maytag electric range beeping and heating when off

I believe I have figured out what the problem was. I had the same issue again last night with the unit staying off and the oven still heating and beeping after cooking.

I realized that my wife has been leaving the microwave light on 24H as a night light in the kitchen. This bulb gets impressively hot and is located 4" from the center of the stove controls. This was heating up the stove controls and then when the oven was used it made it even hotter to the point that it was malfunctioning and not working correctly. I didn't notice it the first time as it was already light in the kitchen.

So hopefully problem solved.

Interesting. Does she know changing that bulb is a PITA? At least in any microwave I have ever used, it is.

Get a small LED night with a photo sensor. It'll use about 1/20th of the energy.

FWIW... I replaced the light bulbs on our microwave with LED's. They work quite well.

That must be an awful bright light.
