New iMac has 10.11, current imac has 10.11. How best to get to 10.12?

Should I wipe the new machine, install 10.12 then migrate? Or should I migrate NOW and then upgrade to 10.12?

What do you think?

Six of one, half dozen of another?

probably a matter of personal preference, but if it were me, I'd wipe the new one, install 10.12, then migrate. Actually, if it were me, I wouldn't go to 10.12 at all. But that wasn't one of your options...

I just talked to apple - needed a senior tech to answer this (eyes rolling) and he said that it would be best to have both machines running the same OS when migrating, so that's what I'm gonna do.

Based on the content of that other thread, I'm thinking the tech has no clue and provided the safest solution.

hal,

I just cloned my mini's Sierra OS to to my "new" iMac 2015 refurb. It is one sweet machine. Added 2x8GB sticks from our sponsor.

Can't wait to get it up and running. I'm up to 24gb too. Transferring data over TB at 240mb/s - this won't take long - shortest migration EVER.
