Help with picture and frame: sending to England
#1
I have a FB friend who lives in London (I'm in Iowa). She did a favor for me and I'd like to send her a token of thanks. She enjoys some photographs that I've take on butterflies in my garden, so a friend suggested a print of that. What kind of frame (I'm still not sure of size yet) would be lightweight enough and sturdy to survive shipping to the UK. Are there rubber/plastic frames that would work for that sort of thing?

I wouldn't worry too much about an ordinary 8x10 frame, if wrapped in bubble wrap and then enclosed tightly in a shallow box. As the size gets larger than 11 x 14, you have to think about if it gets dropped on one corner, or torsion of the frame that could crack the glass.

There are, of course, frames with polycarbonate (Plexiglas) covers nearly indistinguishable from glass and much more lightweight and sturdy.

Have you looked into an online services that will print your photo (once uploaded) mat, frame and deliver all in one shot, ready for hanging? I'm sure they will pack it well enough for it to arrive in one piece. Investigate costs to see if it's cost effective.

I bet they have printing houses in London.
Maybe even with online services.

Yeah, i'd go with a UK printing service.

Otherwise frame it and use plastic / plexiglass and it should be fine, just more expensive to ship.

How nice! Maybe something like this, to avoid the hassle of shipping glass:

or a gallery wrap:
