PSA: How to Stream Thousands of Free Movies Using Your Library Card
#1
This is pretty awesome...stream tons of movies (including many Criterion Collection films) for free using your public library card. Direct link to see if your library participates at the end of this post. Create an account, enter your library card # and you're set.

"Stream thousands of movies, including hundreds of Criterion Collection titles, for free? And all you need is a library card? Surely, it can’t be this simple, right?

It is. More than 200 public library systems in the United States have teamed up with the streaming platform Kanopy to bring some 30,000 movies to library cardholders, free of charge. Kanopy’s emphasis is on documentaries and international films, all of which can be streamed on your computer, through a Roku box or on iOS and Android phone apps."

My library doesn't, so I've sent a request.

Be sure you enter your general library system, not your specific branch name.

I've seen all of "The Naked City" episodes. Each one is like a noir film.

I searched by its name and used that. What's the system?

I meant your general library system name.

For example, here in Houston, I searched for Harris county public library even though the local branch I use is called something else. My branch is part of the Harris County system.

Kanopy is definitely heavy on the documentaries, but some films available outside that category. I have had access through the university library where I work for the last few years. It is one of their more expensive electronic resources, there is a reason that many libraries do not subscribe or limit the number of films that can be watched.
