Bombich Software Upgrade CCC 5
#1
Just received an Email from Bombich. Just interested in other CCC users thoughts on the following. I will must likely pay for the upgrade. However, not finding the price for the upgrade.

"We are proud to unveil the smartest, easiest CCC ever: Carbon Copy Cloner 5. You can buy CCC 5 now via our online store. Already have CCC 4? Great - you can get CCC 5 for 50% off!....

CCC 5 is now available. CCC 5 requires macOS 10.10 or later and is a paid upgrade. CCC 5 will be compatible with macOS 10.13 High Sierra when it is released.".....

Backed up using CCC this morning and there was an update to Version 4.1.18. which I installed before running the back up. It appears Bombich wants users to now buy the CCC 5 version.

In the free pre-3.5 days I paid twice the asking shareware price as by that time I had backed up around 20TB of data and even that amount was a pittance for the functionality it provides. I'll be upgrading to 5.

Yep. Totally worth it for reliable software and support.

Thanks for mentioning us. It's been a wild day and a half!

We had so many people checking out our website and buying CCC that our server could hardly handle it. We increased capacity and everything was great - for like 20 minutes.

(We work with an outside reseller partner to actually sell our software and process all our payments, but in the end that sales and license info has to reach our servers. This will be important info in a moment.)

When our server was reliably back up, our reseller partner had so many backlogged licenses that our server's firewall actually blocked all incoming sales notifications (thinking it was being attacked) and we had to spend hours trying to determine why it was happening and then what IP addresses to whitelist. Once that was done, we had to manually resend each notification. At one point, our 11 yr old son was helping click "retry" links over and over. It's all good, we paid him $5 for his hour of clicking. :-)

Anyway, we're caught up now and everything is working, but apologies to anyone that was caught up in that hot mess! Oh, and if you have any CCC 5 questions, let me know.
