I am in Los Angeles area...Lakewood/Long Beach area.
I had heard that some folks were paying in the 29.95 area for their Cable. Since Comcast was trying to remain in competition with DSL, etc.
I think Comcast offers a 42.95 for 6mbit connection, just wanted to make sure I was getting a good speed for what I was paying. or Pay a 29.95 if I wasnt getting their better speed level.
or something like that...
I have been tempted to try DSL with Extreme or Versizon.
But I guess money isnt everything..

I can get Comcast for three months at $24.95 but then the price skyrockets to $49 ?? here in San Hosie. Comcast along with Gates has signed up with Satan as far as I am concerned re my TV cable bill. Didn't they break up AT&T for having a monopoly?

Microman,
You can try to get Comcast to lower your bill but it doesn't seem like you can play a speed issue card. I haven't tried this personally but people have reported some success by telling Comcast that they have recieved an offer from Verizon, SBC, etc for DSL service for $19.95/month for a year and that you'd like to cancel you cable internet next month. They will hopefully offer a price adjustment as part of a 1-time retention program to keep your business. Of course, YMMV.
The key is to mention to competitor's offer (and even that you've called to accept) and to cancel effective next month. The next month reason is two-fold: on the surface, it's to give them time to install the DSL but really it's so that if they don't bite, you can cancel the cancel order before the effective date.

Your speed tests should be made on the closest reliable site you can find. They will be the fastest because there are fewer points between you and that site to slow down performance.
That doesn't mean you will get that rate downloading from a site in Australia or Europe, as that rate will depend on the internet load at the time. The greater the distance between you and the download point, the more likely the lower your download rate. The greater the distance, the greater the chance of more users on that pipeline.
Your speeds are quite good. I have Comcast, and that is slightly better than what I got at that price tier. You probably won't get any sympathy from Comcast with that info. Try another tack.
