Apple TV 4: any way to downgrade software without USB cable?
#1
I downloaded tvOS 10.2.2 from here

https://ipsw.me/AppleTV5,3

it seems to be still signed by Apple. So I unplug the Apple TV and I want to connect a micro USB cable, only to discover it has a different type of plug, I believe it is USB C. I do not have any of those cables on hand.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but you do need a USB C cable to downgrade firmware on Apple TV, right? is there any way to do this via WiFi, Ethernet, etc?

I did the same thing. I couldn't find any way other than buying a USB C cable that I had no other use for. I might have missed another option, but that's what I had to do.

so USB C is what I need... I wonder if I happen to have any around the house, I doubt it...

Thanks.

C type cable to USBA is what you need unless you have a USBC Mac.

A word of warning after you downgrade. Be sure and turn off auto updating. Apple has that on by default. I hadn't used my Apple TV for a few days until this morning when the grandkids came over and wanted to watch a movie. Apple in all of their supremacy had upgraded me back to 11.1.

I quickly went back in after again doing the downgrade and turned off auto updating. They aren't going to get me again. Who knows for how long they will sign off on 10.2.2.

Warning. If you learn a remote it will try to turn on auto updates.

Apple total BS. While having an auto update run after I turned it off I unplugged my ATV. Turned out ok as it was just downloading the update. Could have bricked it.

But the new interface is terrible for accessing my media center content, something I do more over the holidays than anytime else.

.....the Apple TV will still periodically pop up reminder asking if you want to change to 'update automatically'.....easy to accidentally click 'ok' on remote.....happened to me twice when i wasn't paying attention and was just trying to wake the Apple TV from sleep......quickly pulled the power cord on the Apple TV and shut off router so download would be interrupted.....

.....then turned on Apple TV with internet off....and luckily didn't have time to update....so saved it....but pay attention when clicking on the Apple TV....
