Odd iTunes PC problem
#1
Has anyone seen anything like this? Last night I try to play an album in iTunes on my pc, and I get the exclaimation point (can't find file). I try a couple others, and get the same (oh oh). I have a bunch of my albums on an 2.5in external firewire drive formatted Fat32 so I can go between my PB and the pc, so I open the drive in windows and all the artist folders are there, but ALL the music files are gone. I unmount the hard drive, and unhook it, then hook it back up, and absolutely everything is gone this time. I run norton and it fixes some things, and what I get is one folder of "remnants" that are saved as .CHK files. I figure they are all the song files, as they are the right size, so I try to play them in iTunes, and no go (probably due to the extension), so I go into dos and rename them all .m4a files. Now I go into iTunes, and although things are still a bit wonky, iTunes seems to identify them, even though they are named 100001.m4a etc., as the original songs. WTfrick? I backed the folder up, but I'm wondering if the drive is damaged, or just not working correctly with the system, or what? I also wonder if there is any way to get the files renamed correctly (I would doubt it). The drive is my old PB 40gig inside a case I bought that unfortunately has the prolific chip set (I know), but has been working fine up to now. Anyway, the biggest thing is where the corruption came from in the first place. Any ideas? kj.
