Hi,
Is it possible to connect a Macbook Pro via miniDisplayPort to a monitor and a Mac mini via HDMI to the same monitor?
I know it's physically possible, ie, just plug them both in the way I described above, but will they both work? How would you switch from one to the other?
I guess monitors that support PIP could do this, right? But what about monitors that don't support PIP?
Thanks.

I think PinP is just an added feature. I have multiple monitors with several inputs in use. You just switch to the active input. Am I misunderstanding you"

Certainly can do it with a KVM (keyboard-video-mouse) switch, with multiple inputs to the switch and one cable from the switch to the monitor.
Some monitors enable you to switch among inputs. They should work just fine. If no switching, then I'd say no.

Yes. The monitor should have buttons for switching inputs.

Monitor should have either a dedicated button or a spot in it's UI to swap between the inputs.
The 2 monitors my Mini is connected to right now have a total of 10 different inputs between them (4 on one, 6 on the other). And I have 6 machines distributed between those 10 connection options with more available for anything else that might show up.

It's a sickness.
Actually 2 machines are for testing, one is about to be tossed, one is my Mac, one is my PC, and one is a small file server.

It depends on the display. A DisplayPort to HDMI adapter for the MBP, then plug them into a TV with multiple HDMI inputs.

That's pretty cool, but I need my MBP connected via DisplayPort in order to get 4K at 60MHz. The Mac mini is fine to connect via HDMI as I would only use that occasionally and, so, don't care if I'm getting 4K at only 30MHz.
