why some reputable news organization repeat the same fact in a news article?

According to US media, the request to Mrs Palin - who Senator McCain later regretted selecting - was sent through a family intermediary.

then a few sentences later

According to the magazine, stay-away messages were conveyed through an intermediary to Mrs Palin.


Why do they have to repeat the fact that the message was sent thought a third party rather than a direct communication between Cindy McCain and Sarah Palin

because they are lazy, poorly proof-read, and possibly padding the word count?

I am continually astounded by the errors that would easily be caught if the "writer" would simply use spellcheck and grammar check from even something as old as Word 97/98.

There was more diligence, ethics and attention to detail from my HS newspaper staff than most news outlets these days, including the major networks and publications.

The constant pressure to be up-to-the-minute on the Web means there's no time to read the piece over one last time. It's not that the writer intended to repeat himself. Perhaps he was combining dispatches from two different wire services. Perhaps the phrase was moved from one place to another where it seemed to flow better, and then they forgot to go back to delete it from the original location.

The first mention is part of an overall summary.

The second mention is a more specific mentioning their source and the who told who.

Hardly an egregious error.

Maybe it could have been written better; maybe there was no need to.

Betting that some of these stories are written on iPhones while "reporters" are "on the hunt" for their next $50 byline…
