It's a thankless job but an honor nonetheless.
Stacey Abrams will deliver the Dem response to the SOTU. (Or as Nancy Pelosi likes to call it the STFUSOTU. )
If anyone can make the response interesting and worth watching, Stacey can.

Yes, we are happy this is coming. I’ll listen to her but I don’t know if I can hack Cheeto’s S of the U.

Chris (kind-of-a-jerk) Christie was on Colbert last night and claimed he was asked twice to do the Rep response. He said he turned it down because it's the worst job to have. I think he's just not up for it, whereas Abrams is.

It is a lame job with no hope of not sounding partisan. But maybe we wouldn’t “need” to hear and see an alternative take if the thing wasn’t televised as a cheerleading rally in the first place.

Great choice! I saw that Schumer extended the formal invitation, but whose call is this? The Democratic leadership in Congress, or the party brass?

What Trump deserves is Stephen Colbert.
Use a comedian to reply to a buffoon.

What a thankless job. The person who delivers it, regardless of party, is always slammed afterwards. Especially the Democratic spokespeople and especially by Democrats. Her speech will be too progressive, not progressive enough, too long, too short, too aggressive, too wimpy, whatever. Because we love to eat our own.
