Anyone have an Ancestry account?

I have a name I'd like to run, but not for the price they want.

Check your public library. You may be able to access it through their terminals for free. (Mine offers access to Ancestry from within the library.)

Familysearch.org is a good place to search. You need to sign up for a free account.

Send me a message with the name and all that you know about it. DoB, where born, places lived, etc. That helps narrow the search.

You can try it for 14 days for free.

I did it a couple of years ago and was able to find quite a bit of family history in two weeks.

Good idea, but when I did this and cancelled they hounded me relentlessly by email and phone to sign up for a paid subscription. If you want to check out one name quickly then maybe the library, if available, would save you you the hassles that providing your personal information to Ancestry can involve. If you want to do some more intensive research over a short period of time, then the free trial is the way to go. But beware.

That wasn't my experience but I was wrong - it was actually 6-7 years ago. It must be different now.

Already did the free trial, and had a paid account that was shared with another family member. We let it lapse a couple of years ago. I just got some info from my wife's side and am trying to flesh it out. Her side is hard because it is primarily oral history and doesn't always add up. This particular case should be easier as one member was a prominent politician. At least I hope it is.

As I am the first in my extended family to come to US, I have no reason to search on Ancestry. Let them search for me in 100 years!
