......no sales could be made.......long lines, frustrated customers.....Target said it was not due to 'hacking' but an internal technology issue.......

.......they had to send all customers home.........these seem to be happening more and more.....

Target stores had hourslong register outage nationwide

.....Target said Saturday night an hourslong register outage had ended, after nationwide "system issues" prevented customers from checking out at registers. The outage caused long checkout lines at Target locations, with upset customers posting images and video on social media. It's unclear what caused the outages, though the system has since been restored.

I was there when it started at my Target.

I was making a purchase at their little Starbucks and it took several tries for an Apple Pay charge to go through. The next customer couldn't pay at all.

I wouldn't call it military-precision, but their response seemed to be very well planned and executed. Rather than making a PA announcement, they had people visiting every checkout line, explaining that there was a problem and offering bottled water. I wonder whether they got a heads-up that it was coming.

What business does a “software update” in the middle of a business day? Middle of the night, yes but, during business hours? Doesn’t sound right. I smell a cyber attack.

Just a couple of days after launching same-day delivery.
Coincidence :dunno:

Unfortunately quite a few do. It is one of those penny wise, pound foolish actions, the businesses don't want to pay the extra money for their IT staff to come in during off-hours to do these kind of updates. Or they don't pay the cost for setting up a test server to allow testing of the updates with real loads.

plus when you have 13,000 locations Nationwide there is no middle of the night. in Starbucks case it was just a small menu tweak on the POS I guess the code was improperly written
