A nigh on fourty year faithful relationship…
#1
…of being greeted each morning has ended; the local newspaper broke up with me. Cry

It seems the dispatch company who wrangles the independent contractor paper delivery people has decided to curtail delivery in my area. The "local" paper has long ceased being locally owned and I am not sure how many times it has been resold. Delivery has been spotty for a year and it stings that they broke up with me first…

So school me on iPads. Especially good deals since I am on a fixed income these days. Thanks!

Congrats - you were with them until the end.

I suspect my parents will see something similar happen shortly.

I know it's been a long time coming, but the disappearance of newspapers still freaks me out

The current iPad Air is probably the sweet spot for value and performance: https://www.apple.com/ipad-air/

Obviously, a refurbished unit represents an even greater value.

I’m at Costco (having non-Costco installed tires rotated and balanced for only $22), will check prices here. Is it worthwhile getting AppleCare for an iPad?

Fixed budget... not an iPad Air. Agreed they are sweet, but costly.

Current regular 9.7" iPads offer the best bang/buck -- should be able to find them for $250 or less just about anywhere. Walmart, BB, target (-5% more with read card)

It probably couldn't hurt, it being a mobile device.

FWIW, I've owned three (or four?) iPads and they've all been problem-free.

Wave Rider,

Vienna.app (free) will get you all of the non-local news you can handle. You supply the source (BBC, NYT,CBS, whatever) and it brings you topic headlines as often as you want.

I dropped home delivery of our local paper and now subscribe to it online for $7/month. I and my 1st wife read it every morning, from wherever we are.

You should be able to get online something close to a local paper.
