When I saw the Wall concert in 1980, I was straight away from the stage. For Comfortably Numb, Waters did vocals at the base of the stage and Gilmore was on top of the wall. A gigantic airport landing light was turned on behind him creating a spotlight with his shadow being beamed across the arena.

I was wholly and completely within his shadow throughout this solo. Amazing interference patterns danced about as he moved. It was an incredible lighting effect that only a few people got to see. I wish I could describe it better.

That concert was by far the best and most memorable, but that moment... being in Gilmores shadows throughout this solo still gives me violent goose bumps when I recall it. There are many concerts that I hardly remember at all from those days, but this one is BURNED into my memory.

Run Like Hell with all of the paranoid sounds attacking me from various angles due to REAL fricken surround sound - no one had ever seen that before - was another amazing moment. That show was at least 10 years ahead of its time. And some aspects have never been duplicated anywhere by anyone.

I was fortunate enough to see two shows on his last tour (but not in Pompeii). Astonishing. A master's class in use of the Strat tremelo.

Saw them twice in San Francisco. At Winterland their surround sound affected my equilibrium so much that I had to sit down on the floor. Couldn't stand up. Of course something I might have inhaled could have contributed to that. At the Cow Palace a jet flew over the audience on one song and crashed on the stage. I swear! Never saw any effects before or since that freaked me out like that.

Would love to have seen that show at Pompeii in its entirety! Thanks for posting.
