Out my way, PG&E is the local utility for... well, you know.
A little over a week ago, and just now, I got a call with landline CID showing the full PG&E name and number as one would expect.
But it turns out they're telemarketers for some solar company. When I ask if they're PG&E, they're quick to say no, but try to get on with the spiel.
I hang up at that point. I called PG&E proper and they said they're not working with anybody to sell solar.
There's nothing to be done in this case as the number displayed is the correct number, and it's possible they might need to make a call for some reason.
I also got a spam call on my 'Phone yesterday. Left message in Chinese.
Anyway, just a heads up.

Yeah, I get spam calls with the callerID of my local natural gas provider. There are laws, but technology has bypassed them.

HaHaHa... I'd be curious if I saw that on the Caller ID. I get plenty of other spam calls.
But they never come at night and never before 8am. They fear calling in those non hours. Why is that? Why can't we stop them?

You can still report it to the FCC, but they don't give a crap any more. If you care to report in the future, say you are driving and can't talk and want a number to call them back. If they are stupid enough to give one, it can help the FCC to target new abusers.
The call in Chinese is 100% scam. I still get them since I never changed my number from S.F. East Bay area code after my last move.

There are devices you can use to minimize the aggravation of the calls that require you to ‘press one to speak’ to one of our con artists. An acquaintance uses one that requires an inbound caller to press ‘1’ to complete the call. They have had it for two decades or more.
There was a device I wanted that was pricey at the time, at least 30yrs ago.
It allowed one to assign three-digit codes, 000-999, to one or more callers. They'd dial the base phone number and then be prompted to enter an 'extension' number.
Obviously, the codes could be changed at will. I don't remember how many contacts could be stored, and one had to make a note of what code belonged to who.
No code, no ring.

I'd rather catch the perps and do un-nice things to them. Put some headphones on loud and tape them to their ears and force them to hear ringing over and over for months.
