1.1.1.1 is the new 8.8.8.8

I'm setting up my Ubiquiti EdgeRouter X and AP AC Lites according to this guide - https://github.com/mjp66/Ubiquiti as encouraged by Gilbert.

DNS servers - It seems like people wither go with Open DNS or whatever is fastest which currently seems to be Cloudflare. 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 are certainly easy to remember which helps.

DNS lookups on my home network will be 20ms faster. What will I do with all the extra free time??

Anyway, curious if others have thoughts on DNS setup.

Hey mattkime,

I ended up going with OpenDNS. If you really want to do extensive testing and have access to a PC, you can try DNS Benchmark by Steve Gibson:

https://www.grc.com/dns/benchmark.htm

For me, it shows Cox as the fastest but that may be because they are my ISP followed by Level3. OpenDNS was just a few spots lower so I will stay with them.

Good luck!

Are you using any of their filtering features? That seemed to be the primary reason to chose them but I decided not to worry about filtering for now.

Whatever DNS you use, add a Pi-hole. You are welcome.

For iOS Cloudflare has a 1.1.1.1 app. Has some light VPN capabilities.
