Avocados not from Mexico?
#1
Impostors. These things tell you they are ripe and then are still hard on the inside. From Peru or Chile, and maybe other places. Accept no imitators.

They were for sale on CA on roadside farmstands, 5 for $1.

Speaking of avocados (which we love)...

So we were in a Mexican market, and the avocados had a sign saying don’t touch. (?) You’d point to one and the proprietor would put it in a bag for you.

This seemed over-the-top, but to make a long story short, now we tend to stick to bagged avocados after realizing that nearly all the single ones in the bin at the supermarket are either already bad, or go bad quick, while the ones in a bag of six, that haven’t been dumped, pinched, pushed around or otherwise manhandled are almost always perfect.

Don’t know how many avocados we wasted until we figured this out. They are deceptively delicate, people.

The local markets are $2.50 each and always a crap shoot. We've had very good luck with the Teeny Tiny avocados from Trader Joes. 6 for $4.99

We got some from a few different markets and grocers in Hawaii. They must have been native to the islands because they looked wonderful, but man, they had a bizarre texture. Tended to have very uneven ripeness levels within the same avocado.

yea, had mostly fails from Peru and Chile.
Cali or Mexico for me.
Same with southern-er mangos, except Mexico or Puerto Rico.
