Holy HIPAA, Hackerman ! Millions of medical records exposed
#1
By simple stupidity...
And they STILL charge me for copying my own records. Maybe I should just Hack 'em ?

https://arstechnica.com/information-tech...-internet/

"Our review found that the extent of the exposure varies, depending on the health provider and what software they use. For instance, the server of US company MobilexUSA displayed the names of more than a million patients—all by typing in a simple data query. Their dates of birth, doctors, and procedures were also included.

I just saw my Dr this morning for my annual.

Can you get my test results please? The doc said it would be a week, but I know you can get them sooner.

Thanks.

Really makes me wish Walmart accepted ApplePay.

At this point, I am forced to rely on safety in numbers, like a fish swimming in a school. The odds of my specific info being abused goes down with the more people's information that is out there.

Oh, but the politicians have guaranteed us our information is secure.

When I was running our medical office's EMR system, it was protected by a SonicWall appliance. We did not have any patient access, and we did not store any credit-card or bank information, either. As I recall it required a VPN account to get in.

I must say I've always considered HIPAA overblown. It's true that your medical records might be of interest to potential employers, but it's hard to imagine anyone else who cares whether you have your appendix or not.
