I love chicken, I love pork...

But mixed together, masquerading as bologna— not so much.

My local Safeway had a buy 1 get 50% off deal on Oscar Mayer bologna.

There were three types– turkey, chicken-porks abomination combination, and beef.

There was only one package of the beef, so I thought I'd try one package of the chicken-pork.

Big mistake. It has a really weird texture, and zero taste. I had to add cheese, salt, and pepper, to make it tolerable.

So, lesson learned. No need to save 50% at the cost of adding 50% to my typical purchase, when I'm not going to enjoy it.

That second package was over half the cost of a Quarter Pounder Deluxe!

So you prefer your pink slime made with a coarser texture and the traditional blend of carcinogens "spices"... Big Grin

I was about 26-27 when I learned that there are adults that eat bologna - I honestly thought it was just for kids because they didn't know better.

Every once in a while I get a craving for Oscar Mayer bologna. In deference to my husband the heart patient I bought the turkey kind and it too has no flavor and an odd consistency. When one has a craving, one needs to go for the real thing.

Ick! No! (td)

In my world, there is no substitute!

(And their Koegel's Viennas hot dogs are even better)

Try mortadella instead of bologna.

I grew up on fried bologna sandwiches on white bread with ketchup. It wasn't even the fancy schmancy "name-brand" Oscar Mayer bologna. It was some cheapo generic brand like White Rose or something. On the days when the fridge was especially empty, we didn't have bologna and just had ketchup on white bread.
Frying the bologna kicks it up a notch (tu)

Get a one-inch slab and put it in your smoker with whatever else is there. In a couple of hours, you have a great snack while waiting on the main course of smokey goodness.
