Aerosol can + Hot Day equals Goodbye Civic Sunroof

NBC News
Dry shampoo can explodes, blows through car sunroof, lands 50 feet away
A Missouri mom is cautioning people to heed warning labels on products after an
aerosol can of dry shampoo exploded in her daughter's car, shot through the
sunroof and torpedoed through the air, landing 50 feet away.

Christine Debrecht wrote on Facebook on Thursday that no one was in the Honda
Civic when the can of Equate Tea Tree Dry Shampoo combusted in hot weather,
blew the hinges off the closed center console of the car, where her daughter kept
it, and shot straight through the sunroof. Photos she posted show debris in the
car and an almost completely glass-free hole where the sunroof used to be.
Debrecht said the can landed 50 feet away from the car.

KSDK (NBC) reported temps reached 90F in St. Peters, MO where the incident occured.

Also destroyed center console...

I love the smell of Tea Tree in the morning!

Not familiar with dry shampoo and I know better not to keep spray cans in the car. But I am surprised the explosion was so violent.

Now regarding dry shampoo, what is it and why do people keep this in the center console? If I buy shampoo it would be in a bag in the trunk while I drive home. It never occurred to me to store it in the center console. Was she living in her car?

I'd never heard of it either, but then again I'm not a teenage girl. At the risk of actually spending time on this topic, it appears there are both aerosol sprays and powders.

But given that these products can't apparently do anything to dispose of dirt, I'd say that "cleaning" the hair isn't the goal, and that shampoo is a bit of a misnomer.

.....people are not supposed to wash their hair everyday.....it strips the hair.....for the days when one doesn't wash......dry shampoo fills in the 'cleaning' gap......

Huh... So is this sort of like fuller's earth for clothes ? Spray it on, brush it off ?

.....Dry shampoo works simply: the alcohol or starch in the product soaks up the excess oil and grease in your hair, giving it a cleaner, fresher appearance. Traditionally, shaking corn starch into hair has achieved the same effect, but most current products deliver the drying agents via an aerosol spray........
