It just amazes me that they continue to happen WHILE grabbing so much media attention.
What can we do to prevent more deaths at the hands of police?

We already know what to do
We've known for a long while It's not about knowing at this point, it's about actually following through. Only vote for people willing to follow through on all the pieces.

Seattle Police has been under a Consent Decree since 2012 and still has major problems. Even after having a female African-American chief for a couple of years. SPD just had a huge issue by promoting a dinner with racist/sexist/etc. "Billy Graham Evangelistic Association" and only cancelled it after word of the the event blew up in local media coverage.
Even though she was elected as a 'reform candidate,' the King County sheriff's department has a chief that has a recent campaign calling her to resign after an internal email about a shooting victim was leaked.

Training for police work is completely different from soldiering and while former military are in theory retrained, their "muscle memory" from military probably takes over when stressed. Combine that with DoDs "gifts" of surplus equipment to locals and how's a former GI Joe or Jane expected to think or react?
