I know this should be easy, but for some reason I am struggling. Trying to find the cost basis for some of my stock.

Apple's shareholder information Investor Relations site should have the complete history of APPL stock prices.

I assume that's a split adjusted price ($0.24), and probably what stephen needs if calculating profit/loss (as opposed to idle curiosity what it was back then - in which case, one might want the actual dollar amount it was trading at on that day).

What was the offering price at Apple’s initial public offering (IPO)?
Apple went public on December 12, 1980 at $22.00 per share. The stock has split five times since the IPO, so on a split-adjusted basis the IPO share price was $.10.

How many times has Apple’s stock split?
Apple’s stock has split five times since the company went public. The stock split on a 4-for-1 basis on August 28, 2020, a 7-for-1 basis on June 9, 2014, and split on a 2-for-1 basis on February 28, 2005, June 21, 2000, and June 16, 1987.

So for the idle curiosity, the actual dollar amount on 3/5/96 would be roughly $26.88 ($0.24 x 4 x 7 x 2 x 2 - there's probably some rounding off that happened in that $0.24 number, so that's lost in getting back to the original number). (Again, this is only useful for idle curiosity).

Actual trading prices on 3/5/1996 (not adjusted for splits).

Close 26.625, High 26.75, Low 26.25

This was back when prices were in fractions (eg. 5/8).

Are we sure stephen isn’t just trying to rub our faces in it?

For that he would have picked the date 12/23/97 when it was about half that price (and no splits occurred in between).

Close $12.9375 High $13.3125, Low $12.9375

Split adjusted that's $0.115513393

That wasn't the "big" lot of my stock. : )

It was one share that has multiplied through the years.
