what is this Teamviewer garbage???
#1
I am trying to help my mom on her computer so I had her download Teamviewer. However, MY Teamviewer keeps telling me that the version of the remote computer is too old to connect and that I need to update it. Well, guess what, she has the latest version. WTF!

I changed to Anydesk after TeamViewer kept insisting I was using it for commercial purposes and repeatedly locked me out.

S. Pupp,

Yups. Although TeamViewer is the best of the bunch, it kept locking me out even though I wasn't using it for commercial purposes. Very frustrating. AnyDesk is a solid alternative. However, I decided to spend the bucks for Screens. Not quite as good as TeamViewer but rock solid reliable. Can even log into a machine that was just restarted. I keep AnyDesk on hand as a backup to it. I believe Jump Desktop is very similar in functionality to Screens.

Any reason to not use Apple's built-in ScreenSharing?

Can screen share via iMessage/Messages.

I do this with my mom all the time.

Yep, I've found that there are all kinds of problems with less-than-computer-savvy relatives not being signed into iMessage or iCloud or whatever, and then having to jump through hoops to get them logged in/convincing Apple or whatever that they are who they say they are. I gave up on TeamViewer for the same reason as S. Pupp, switched to AnyDesk, and haven't looked back -- it's just way more user-friendly for the non-computer-savvy.

We've been using Chrome remote desktop lately and it seems to work surprisingly well.

I finally gave up and just told her to send me the computer and the drives and I'll just set the whole thing up here. I have some other upgrades to do, so it will work out. But it's still annoying.

Yes, it IS an older computer I am trying to connect to. My laptop is Big Sur and the mini is Mavericks? I think. I'm going to look at Anydesk and Screens, b/c since I will have the computer I will go ahead and install one or the other so that I can avoid this in the future.

Had the same issue BS to Mavs.
Gave up and brought them together as you are.
If the mini will take HS, that should fix the TV issue.
