Had some Dr. Appointments this week and was just browsing Facebook and in the most recent suggested friends list are one of the support personnel/technicians at the clinic. Their names aren't on any paperwork I have received or even noted in the clinic software that I visited with them their names were never spoken. These were the staff that take your blood pressure and do the routine things before the appointment. I had my phone in my pocket but didn't even use it in the clinic.
The only way I see that Facebook could possibly make that connection is if it was using some sort of bluetooth or near field communication to match you up with people in the same room. Otherwise there would have been dozens of matches from the same cell tower or internet access point.
The only other option would be if the person looked me up, but I can't imagine that they would do something like that.
