‘ As oil soars, OPEC and its allies decline to offer relief ‘
“ The cartel said it would continue a strategy agreed to in July, rubber-stamping a modest 400,000-barrel-a-day production increase for April. Analysts widely consider an increase of this size insufficient to cool down prices. In addition, many OPEC Plus countries have been producing substantially less oil than the group’s targets. “
“ What OPEC Plus members will actually deliver to the market in the coming weeks is anyone’s guess. “
“ Even before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, OPEC Plus was producing substantially less than its targets. The International Energy Agency, which works to shape energy policy around the world, estimated that OPEC Plus fell short by 900,000 barrels a day in January — about 1 percent of overall production. “

Russia's Mid East enemies are OPEC's enemies too.

Its almost as though there are downsides to fossil fuel usage.

Hey guys, just thinking outside the box here, but maybe we should reduce our dependence on fossil fuels?

The problem is the fossil fuel powers are politically entrenched globally (U.S., Russia, the Middle East, etc.). And they act with unity in regards to their interests, which are above national interests. Not saying it can't be done. They tried to do in Musk and Tesla, but Musk appears to be winning, and may well defeat them. But we need to do more politically on the home front to get them out of other sectors of our economy. This is what it will take to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels. If Musk can do it, we can do it.

If anything good comes out of this, it'll be that this pushes us even more quickly toward EV's and other non-fossil fuel based alternatives...

One of the reasons OPEC even considers dropping prices (increasing output, really) at any time despite their chokehold is that they are aware that elevating prices for too long will stimulate the conversion to alternative technology. Here's a 2010 on the topic, from a time when prices were low: https://www.theatlantic.com/business/arc...ces/61557/
So, I expect an output increase eventually. Probably by summer. (You heard it here first.)

Even if we use fossil fuels to GENERATE the electricity, it is 3x as efficient as a tiny ICE in a car/truck. Most power plants run around 61-62% efficient. Petroleum fired turbines can produce massive amounts of power, but @70% of the fuel jusy goes to spin up the turbine and run the compressor section. They are either on or off essentially. Can't really idle them. Same reason they hate to idle airliners.

I personally can't wait to own my own Solar Batmobile!: https://www.washingtonpost.com/climate-s...solar-car/
... that thing is just damned cool-looking.
