The special election was to replace Rep. Don Young, who died earlier this year at the age of 88. Peltola will complete the term — and become the first Alaska Native in Congress — and then she, Palin and Republican Nick Begich, who finished third in the special election, will face off again in November for the next two-year term.

A nice surprise with todays result. Still have a November hump to get over, but winning the special, combined with the ire that Palin has earned and the scorched earth between Begich and Palin (and the early years indications of some
national Roe backlash give reason for hope. Tougher fight of Begich drops out.
