Used-software ethical advice needed
#1
I bought a boxed copy of Tiger through Edu channels. (Will probably do the same for Leopard). Although it is single-user, I have installed it on several Macs I had. Now, All the Macs in the family are newer and came with Tiger preloaded. But the older Macs were sold with Tiger on them.

Can I ethically sell my copy of Tiger on eBay?

I think ethics went out the window when you used the single user on several Macs.

pdq-
Empirically what you did was sell your old macs with an illegal copy of tiger on them, since you did not sell them with the box or the Tiger install disks. If Apple was Microsoft you've have been nailed already by XP's license checking. Because Apple doesn't do that, you were not caught.

Technically you should either:
1- buy licenses for each copy of Tiger you installed on a computer, and then sold the computer.
2- Inform the buyer of each computer that the Tiger that was installed should be removed and their own legal copy installed.

Sell the 'unused box set' ? Jiminy Cricket is gotta be jumping up and down on your shoulder right now. To shut him up, just mail the box to the person who bought the most expensive Mac from you, or keep it and use it to 'test' OSX on any more used macs that come your way.

I agree with VooDooPengie.
It seems you are asking for absolution at this point.

Okay, okay. No eBay for me. And thinking back now, I think I only actually sold one Mac upgraded to Tiger.

And if Leopard comes in a family pack, I'll buy that, too. (It would be nice if they had an edu price on it).

But really- have you ever seen some of the listings on eBay? ("This was owned by a design firm and has Photoshop, Illustrator, Office, blah, blah blah installed"). I thought I was sailing pretty upright to wipe the disk and just do an OS install.

"But really--have you seen how many people get murdered in this city every day? I thought I was sailing pretty uptight just to cut the guy's arm off."

<> Riddle me this why to do people come here to get beat up on these questions?

I admit I find it entertaining, but what do they get out of it?

Same here.

BG's probably right- somebody wanting to be absolved.

But I wonder if sometimes it's not somebody just wanting to start a Holy War of ethics and jerk some chains.

I'll offer $5 for the DVD.

I used my Mac mini Tiger disk to install the Tiger onto the iMac and eMac too and it gets old dragging the mini around to repair my eMac (with a funky drive I think). I am edu eligible too.
