Thanks for all the random car advice, I got one today!

I am finally out of my S10 and back into another Subaru. After searching for the last three months in every state east of the Mississippi, I ended up purchasing one five minutes from my hometown. It's nothing spectacular as some people's standards go: '98 Subaru Forester, 123k miles, but it's what I've wanted for a long time. It was too good of a deal Smile Thanks again for all the thoughts on towing, engine swaps and whatever!

Can I ask- Did you consider an Outback at all, and what made you decide to go with the Forester?

Before the S10 I had a '90 Legacy (front wheel drive). It was totaled twice, wrecked four times (I was only driving during one of those). Each time my father and I rebuilt it with spare parts from a parts car picked up on eBay. The thing is still running like a champ, but needs a total brake job that will cost more than the car is worth.

I got the S10 for my dj equipment as I moved away from home and couldn't mooch off of dad and his F150 anymore. It was a good deal at the time, but gets terrible gas mileage because the previous owner tuned it up pretty good (performance chips and the whole works).

I went with the Forester because it's taller inside and out. I'm 6'4" and that head room is a precious commodity in smaller vehicles. Plus the Forester has just enough room to still squeeze in my DJ gear (3x2.5x2 18" sub cab, 3x2x1.5 dual 15" mains, amp rack, preamp rack, cable box and light box).

I looked at several Outbacks of the same year as this Forester as well as Impreza wagons, but I really like the headroom in mine.

The guy I bought it from hadn't plowed his driveway yet (3 FOOT snow drifts in places). The Forester plowed right through the heart of the 10-12" in the middle with no problems. It's getting some new rubber all around this afternoon.

With your Indiana Plates you will be turned back at the Illinois border.

Just kidding I go around the neighborhood and admire Foresters. The head room looks great. Congrats!
