Rumour mill: The 500 will be renamed Taurus cuz they haven't sold a single 500 other than to Hertz or Avis.

Unless they bring back the Tarus station wagon, then I'm not interested until this 'crossover' fad blows over.

I rented the Five Hundred for a bunch of cross country driving for 3 weeks last year. Other than people calling me "grandpa" it drove very well and seemed to be put together pretty good. The gas mileage was great for the amount of car it was hauling around. I was impressed and this is coming from a Toyota family.

I think the 500 sold to more than rental companies. I will bet at least 50 old farts bought them because they did not want to support a "Japanese" company.

i would love for ford to turn the 500 into a stationwagon that seats 7 forward facing passengers.

i wouldn't want the 4x4 suv qualities. i much rather have the road handling of a decent stationwagon.

i got tauruses/sables for my folks and in-laws. all have been generally pleased with reliability. but i am never thrilled to drive those cars.

but a 500 wagon, i would try-especially if it were real wheel!

be well

The 500 is an all-around good vehicle except for the two things that get the most compaints:
Lukewarm styling and underpowered. It gets good mileage because of the small motor so if you don't mind whether your neck gets snapped on acceleration then it's a nice vehicle.

Good handling, American Station Wagon?!?!
I have never read those words in the same sentence unless it was a punchline for a joke.

I love wagons, I have owned several over the years, including a Dodge with a 440 and a four speed. After a suspension overhaul 16X8 steel cop car wheels and fat radials it handled pretty damn good, but not from the factory.
Most station wagons of yore cornered on the rocker panels.

I like my Taurus for the most part.

Sexy or powerful it ain't , but gets good mileage for the size, and plenty of room.

I guess I'm an old fart then because I like the Ford 500. It's a classy looking car, especially for the price.
