My company is getting audited by Microsoft on Monday, so I need to go out and physically touch 90 computers and document all of the Microsoft software that is installed and find and prove the validity of the licenses. My love of Linux is multiplying by the minute...I have no problem paying for software, but I do have issues with paying for it 5 times.
1) Windows client license (WinXP)
2) Windows Server Client Access License (so #1 is legally allowed to talk to #3)
3) Windows Server License (W2k3)
4) MS Exchange License (Exchange 2003)
5) MS Exchange Client Access License (so #1 can legally talk to #4)
Why the heck would anyone buy a server OS unless they were going to connect clients to it?@!?!!@@!!@@#$%@$#%@%##@$%^@#$%^$#^#@$^

Would this be an opportunity to tell "the powers that be" at your company that Apple doesn't typically have such a moronic pricing structure?
Or are they too deep in Bill Gates anus to make any progress on switching?

Well, there may be a software running problem at his company. Macs don't run all software programs or have many of the business software programs.
I thought MSFT automatically did its own checking. You cannot install a program if your WIN is not legit..and a window pops up also...but maybe they don't detect it on multi user cases.

Ahh, fond memories of Netware 3.1x that cost about $2000 for a 5 user license (educational pricing even), and instead I got NT server with 25 clients for $400.

Enough that your boss should have just written a purchase order for a brand new server and a copy of Red Hat for half the price?
So why do you think M$ is coming for an audit... fired anybody recently?
