Belt or chain garage door opener?
#1
My old Genie worm drive garage door opener lost some threads on the long worm drive. About an 1”, missing on worm gear. So it gets to that point on the worm drive and goes noisy and stops.

Guy at Home Depot said the Genie are made outside USA now and was pointing me to their other brand , Chamberlain. I assume it shouldn’t be to hard to drop old and install new.

Will stick with 1/2 HP as door is metal slide up, not heavy wooden.

So belt or chain?

down in Fla horse country, Chamberlain is on every fence & garage door.

If you have tension springs these are awesome:

Belt. Much quieter and you don't have to oil it.

Chamberlain, Liftmaster and Craftsman are all Chamberlain brands, with interchangeable parts.

I vote belt - quieter, and I’ve always believed the less vibration adds to longevity.. if you have torsion springs, the jackshaft opener shown is a great option.

My belt has held up well over the 10 years Ive had it and is MUCH quieter.

Thumbs up on Chamberlin brand. Their MyQ app works well.

Belt. Or jackshaft if you can swing it.
