planned obsolescence

France is fighting to save your iPhone from an early death

profit vs planet.

I hope at least the user replaceable batt comes back.
Fkn annoying. Or at least reduced fee back to $50.
Since the batt might cost Apple $5. Some kid gets $15/hr to spend 30 mins (maybe) to swap the batt out.
Spend $25 to make $75 on top. Seems a good profit.

Same with Pixels and Mactops. Where's charged graphene batts we was promised?

"Apple iPhone with Graphene Battery:

iPhone with Graphene battery is in development and according to reports it will be launched in 2024 as Apple is always too slow in launching new technology products."

Is this an appropriate place for me to mention that the beloved iPhone SE from 2016 has some really really easy to dislodge - and absolutely minisculed - capacitors right next to the battery connector?

surface mount components are great for making things dinkier, but no party to service.
I tossed a $1000 piece of gear because the cost of servicing it was more expensive than buying used.

That is certainly a consideration for replacement wired in batts.
It was the one good thing I could say about our former LG phones.
Easy open entry to swap batts. The phones are poo, but at least you could keep the lights on even if it would crash on every other call.

You can't have a removable/replaceable battery and have the phone be water resistant. I would MUCH rather have the existing phones that are glued up tight and water resistant than to be able to save $60 on a battery replacement.

It used to be routine that phones would suffer water damage. I never hear about it now. Apple also updates its phones for a super long time. No other company does that. Samsung promised 3 major updates and that's it. They'll even stop security updates after a time. Apple can easily do the same thing if obsolescence becomes important to them.
