FOUND: 512mb PC133 Ram for PowerMac G4 450
#1
Got a killer deal on a G4 PowerMac, and it has one stick of 512mb PC133 memory. Would like to max it out with three more of the same module. Before I buy it from our sponsor, was wondering if anyone had some laying around that they wanted to get rid of for the cost of shipping?

I'd probably get 4 new modules to be matched.

EDIT: I may have some SO-DIMM in the basement from older G4 PowerBook or MacBook, but I think you want full size, right? and if I have something, it would be only 2 modules anyway.

Yeah, those wouldn’t fit since they’re SO-DIMM. I really appreciate the offer, though!

Fix the bad GPU cap on our 2010 MBP, and the RAM is yours (assuming it's still hiding in the box in the back of our tech cabinet). Cool

Actually, I gave a bunch of G4 towers to Harbourmaster, who bestowed whatever was left of the collection to Pat, when he bailed from OC, and landed on the wrong coast awhile back. They were all full of 512's and/or 1GB's, or whatever they took to max 'em out..... which is my long winded way of saying the RAM box may only have 256's/128's in it; I'm not sure of the capacities, only that there are some G4 sticks in there. I'll check when I get a chance to dig into the cabinet. In the midst of reconfiguring the 15" unibody MBP fleet while underneath a bit of a time crunch now.

I have a bunch (maybe 30?) brand new 256MB PC133 chips but zero 512 chips. You are welcome to four gratis if you want them.

Buzz — I actually did dabble with micro soldering a few months back, but apparently needed more skill than I thought I had :-)
Let me know what you find from your cache-o-ram!

Speedy — I will definitely take you up on your offer if Buzz doesn’t have the 512mb chips, thanks!

For the GPU fix, it looks like most peeps use a heat gun w/ funnel attachment to focus the heat, which looks more user friendly (easier) than the micro soldering dudes..... at least in their respective videos. If I don't fall asleep after tomorrow's activities, I should b able to get in the cabinet in the evening. Gotta leave at 3:45AM in the morning to pick up the kid, and drop him and his mama off at the airport. It's like they haven't heard of Uber! Then a couple of doc's appts and finish up some pending projects. Will post results ASAP.

Ah, not a capacitor, but the GPU itself. I had an ('07 or '08 model) MBP with gpu issues. I baked the motherboard in the oven (had specific instructions at the time) and fixed the issue on two different occasions. Each time the MBP would last around 6 months to a year. Unfortunately, the third time I had to bake it, I couldn't fix the issue.

So, y'all got 4 RAM slots, eh? With PC133 RAM, I'm guessing it's a PM G4 Gig-E machine....?

I'll photo what I found soon.

Edit =

OK, here's what I found in 512MB's.....

A pair of mismatched PC2700 333MHz sticks.
They're from upgrading MDD's to 1GB sticks.
IIRC, if, and that's a Big "IF", they're downclock compatible, they'll only be seen as 256MB sticks in earlier G4 PM's.
I *think* if they were correct form and function, a downgrade to G4 Quicksilver G4's was a possibility; not sure about going lower.
Do some homework, and LMK...., plus OWC has these for only $8 each anyway.....,
though I still have that 256GB SSD game console pull that I haven't done anything with.
Cool

It's a PowerMac G4 450 (AGP) - pretty sure it's the Sawtooth: https://everymac.com/systems/apple/power...4_450.html

I'm not sure if it can handle anything past pc133, do you know the answer to this?

I totally forgot about the gaming SSD :-)
